Don't have to be the prettiest
If you have the mind, the willingness
No one stops a girl who knows what she’s got
No reason why I can't help following with my eyes
Even at my best, I guess I'm still just one of them
Currently listening to ''Stop'' by Jimmy Eat World (Invented, 2010)
These lyrics truly resonate with me these days... Why? Let’s just say I’ve had some unwelcomed comments (IRL, not on the blog) concerning my weight. To be honest, what I really don’t get is why people feel they have the right to comment on something so personal. No matter the amount of confidence I might have in myself, hearing those types of negative comments always hurts a little. My shape does not define me as a person nor does it influence my sense of style…which brings me to another point.
All of this weight/fashion internal debate got me thinking about personal style blogging vs weight. It pains me to say this but I’ve come to the realization that some really good personal style bloggers don’t get enough attention simply because they don’t have a model’s physique (not talking about myself here). Wasn’t the fun of personal style blogs all about having regular girls wearing lust worthy clothes, about being able to imagine yourself in the same clothes or simply about getting some styling ideas? I am definitely not saying model sized girls can’t have outfit post blogs, simply that other girls should be as present when it comes to collaborations with brands. I think it would be fun to see some opportunities offered to bloggers wearing something bigger than a size 4.
I know some of you might be thinking: ‘’the clothes just don’t look as nice on a regular sized girls’’. To which I will promptly answer: ‘’then why not simply chose a model as the face of your brand?''
Just a little reminder people! It’s about style, not only about size!! *
On another note, I've recently realized that spring always seems to bring out my nostalgic side which is probably the reason why I've been listening to some old favorites all weekend long. From Alanis to Foo Fighters to one of my favorite band ever Jimmy Eat World (teen years and early twenties), my car's stereo has been blasting songs that instantly come with old memories. Whether it is good or bad, those songs always have a special place in my heart. Isn't it weird how the lyrics above fit so well with the topic of this blog post ;0)
Because I am extremely curious, I want to know what are your thoughts on the subject? On a lighter note, what song makes you nostalgic. Why?
*I just want to clarify that in no way am I saying that girls like Rumi, Jane, Carolina or Betty have no style…quite the contrary in fact!!
