My hunt for the perfect Navajo printed coat/blazer/cape has been ongoing for the last year or so. I was just about to give up when I stumbled upon this really oversized beauty from Pendleton at Value Village. The shape may not be the most flattering but with a price tag of 14.99$ I couldn’t pass it up. The bonus, it is so warm and is roomy enough to layer over any of my chunky knits. It’s kind of like a cosy outdoor blanket!

Coppola Blondes

 

Much like the Hitchcock blondes, Sofia Coppola seems to have a thing for fair haired young ladies. It is believed that she has had a preference for blondes since her early teen years. Classic case of wishing you looked like the total opposite of yourself. I also feel that the light hair is perfect for the ethereal look she often gives her innocent characters…each of them beautiful in their own melancholia.

I finally got the chance to see Sofia’s latest movie Somewhere this past Friday. It is fhe perfect mix of all her previous movies yet is still a little bit disappointing. Have you seen it?

Furry Thing: The Fur Debate

I know I am venturing into dangerous/controversial territories by mentioning this subject but I really want to get your opinion.  I can’t deny it; I am a true fur lover! Wait! Before getting all worked up, please finish reading this post as I think I might be bringing some good points to the debate.

Furs have come back in style big time in the last few years. All the best dressed Hollywood stars, bloggers and models have been wearing it around the clock. Whether in the form of a vest, a scarf or a full on coat, it seems like I’ve become obsessed with adding a little touch of fur to my everyday outfits. My guess is the reason why I love it so much is because it brings me back to that old school glamour, to a time where women showed their status by buying furs. That is also the reason why so many fur coats still gets passed down through generations and why so many of them find their way to various thrift shops making me a very happy girl. 

Back to the question I wanted to ask you all, the main reason why I chose to write this post: How do you feel about vintage/recycled fur? 

As much as I love the fur trend I would NEVER in my whole life buy it brand new. I don’t want to participate in an industry I feel strongly against. Yeah! You read that right…although I have no problem with wearing recycled/thrifted fur; I still believe buying new is morally wrong. Which is also why, most of the time, when I wear my vintage fur coat I have guilty conscience. Not because of the fact that I am wearing an animal but simply because I am scared people will think I would be willing to buy new. I want to know your thoughts on the matter!

Cinematic Musings: Mermaids

I had never seen the movie Mermaids before stumbling on it at the drugstore in a 3.99$ bin. With a very boring Saturday night ahead of me, I decided to buy it and finally give it a try. That, and the fact that I've been having a big thing for late 80's, early 90's movies even if this one was actually set in the 60's. ;0) Just watching all the different costumes and fashions had me craving for a good thrift shopping session. You can never go wrong with a Winona Ryder movie!!

I absolutely loved her character's ironic nature. She plays a jewish girl that wishes to become a nun while staying as ''pure'' as possible. All hell breaks loose when she finds herself unable to restrain from getting it on with a much older guy. Typical teenage stuff...lol. Her prim and proper outfits are a great source of style inspiration especially the striped dress and brown boot combo shown in the scond picture above. I can only imagine the collection of girly dresses she must own. Something Zoeey Deschanel could be envious of!!

The movie also stars a very young Christina Ricci, so adorable it hurts. Obsessed with swimming, Kate (Ricci) has the greatest vintage bathing suits and bikinis. Is it weird for me to be lusting over a 10 year old's swimwear? Blame it on the ruffles! Her haircut is also noteworthy, very Suri Cruise circa 2008.

As for Cher's character, she is the quintessential men hunter and her wardrobe sure shows it. Dressed either in sexy body conscious dresses or high-waisted cropped pants, I don't think the star has ever looked this good! To say that the 60's era suits her well might just be the understatement of the year.

Talk about a 5$ well invested!

Could the girl get any prettier?!

I rented the movie Easy A and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The girl can act that's for sure. Whether in comedic scenes or in more dramatic ones, she is always compelling and hugely likeable. I had loved her in Zombieland and Superbad but this movie is when I developed my girl crush. It also helps that the girls alway looks amazing on the red carpet. She never over does it but always has a look all her own. Just looking at her is making me want to go back to red hair (I also love the nordic blonde shade she is sporting while filming the new Spider Man). I would probably do it if it wasn't the hot (hipster!?) hair color to have right now...think I'll stick to my strawberry blonde.
