Manicure Wednesday: Glitter Ombre DIY

On My Nails Rimmel London 60 seconds in Silver Bullet - Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Strobe Light
Now matter hard I've tried, I've never mastered the art of manicures. By now, I have accepted the fact that I will always be horrible at doing my own nails. 30 seconds after applying my polish I somehow always end up smudging it therefore being the reason why I was so proud of myself when I managed to succeed at a Glitter Ombre DIY. That right! Me, the queen of chipped nails and disaster manicures achieved the unexpected.

Following Louise's easy steps, I ended up with the most perfect nails (and no smudges!!). So excited to try out some other colour combos!!

Fish Bones And Rock Oldies

Suede Jacket Danier via Village des Valeurs - Led Zeppelin Tshirt Vintage via Fripe-Prix Renaissance - Skirt Zara from a swap - Tights Secret - Earrings Vintage via Community Shop

Throughout the years, this band t shirt/jacket combo somehow became my uniform when I am feeling lazy but still need to look somewhat fashionable. Paired with a pair of fish skeleton earrings, the look get an extra touch of edge and ultimately ends up looking like more thought went into picking the said outfit than in reality.

To me, this here is another example that uniform don't have to be boring and that everybody has their own vision of what classic is...

Hair Repair: All Ends Well

To say that I was devastated when I wrote my post about the hair disaster I encountered when using L'Oréal Healthy Looks is not putting lightly. Only a few hours after publishing the post, I was contacted by someone from L'Oréal (the amazing Michyl!!). Front that point on, the help I've been getting from the brand has been nothing short of astonishing.

Thanks to L'Oréal, I was able to visit colorist Alexandre at Orbite for some intensive hair therapy. My first appointment was all about making sure the green/grey tint to my hair was gone by doing an hair colour removing treatment. After only a few minutes in the chair, Alexandre had already achieved what I thought was impossible. I could finally look back in the mirror without seeing a green mop on my head. To minimize the damage done to my hair, I was treated to an Uh-mazing Kérastase Fusio Dose Reinforcing treatment. Leaving the salon, my hair was a decent shade of light brown and felt unbelievably soft despite putting it through the ringer. A few spots still needed correcting so another appointment was made for the following week. The goal: a gorgeous ombre inspired by Gisele and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Thank you L'Oréal, Thank you Michyl, Thank you Caroline, Thank you Hugo!! Really from the bottom of my heart, your incredible help was unexpected and a real life saver. Check out the final result!!!

The perfect ombre hair! So natural and understated.

Manicure Wednesday: Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro In Steel Grey

On My Nails Rimmel Lasting Pro in Steel Grey

I had heard nothing but good thing about Rimmel Nail Polishes. Most of my favourite Youtube beauty gurus swear by it's great cost efficient quality, vast colour selection and perfect consistency. 2 coats on each nails is enough to guarantee a streak-free opaque finish. Also, I love that the formula is so fast drying that I don't even need to apply my Sally Hansen Insta-dry Top Coat.

When it comes to buying nail polishes, I have to admit that my choice is always influenced by the brand on sale so I jumped at the chance to try this polish when I spotted it on liquidation at 2.99$. My colour of choice, a grey/lilac shade that goes with almost anything. The sad thing I realized is that I tend to buy the same type of shades over and over again. Note to self: Branch out a little! Colourful is fun, pastels are on trend and reds will always be a classic. With so many nuances to pick from, why am I always so uninspired?

I'll try to surprise you next week!!

PS: My nails are as bad and as short as ever. I need to learn to be a real lady and stop picking at my nails! :( One day, one day...

Melody Musing: City & Colour

This here is me introducing a new section to my musing series. Every other Tuesday I'll be sharing with you a song, band or melody that inspire my daily style. Music has such an affect on my mood that I always find my outfit selection resembles the artist I was listening to while getting dressed. Inspiration really does steam from everything!

Sometimes, one woman's misery is another woman's treasure. Not that I would ever take pleasure in someone else sadness but let's just say I was in the right place at the right time when it came to finding a ticket to the sold out City & Colour concert last Friday. While I was desperately looking for a single ticket outside the concert venue (damn hiked up scalper prices...155$ for a 40$ ticket), a lovely girl came up to me and told me she would sell me her ticket since she was supposed to go with her boyfriend but he had  just broken up with her. After thanking her profusely, I made my way into the concert hall for a night of sweet melody. Highlight of the concert definitely include Body In A Box when Dallas asked everyone to put their cellphone and camera away or when the crowd joined in to What Makes A Man.

While I was ecstatic to see Dallas live for the third time in the little while, one thing was missing. That night, I would have done or given anything to have my sister by my side.  I have to admit that my eyes might have gotten misty a few times during the concert. All I could think about was the amazing weekend we had spent together at Ottawa Folk Fest. Oh the memories... Here's to hoping there's a repeat this summer.

When I think of City& Colour, girly Canadiana style comes to mind. How does that translate into clothing? Here is my rendition:

It's kind of hard to see the print of the dress but they are small feathers. So appropriate for the singer/songwriter type...

Good Mornin' Little School Girl

Dress Vintage via Village des Valeurs - Hair Bow Delilah - Tan Satchel Hibou via Little Burgundy c/o Aldo

I've been away for far too long... Sometimes, life just gets in the way. I've been crazy buzy with work and exciting new project but more on that in the weeks to come. 2012 has really kind so far, bring my way some fun experiences and amazing encounters. At the beginning of the month, I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the web faces for the launch of Marcelle's BB cream (You can see it here!). I even got to see City &Colour in concert for the 3rd time in the last 6 months. Whatever comes next, I'm ready as hell!

Today's outfit is based entirely around a little surprise I got in the mail courtesy of the lovely PR girls at Aldo (thanks so much Effie, Gen, Sophie and Lea ) : a genuine leather tan satchel from the house brand Hibou (sold through the store Little Burgundy). Best of all, that exact bag was on my wish list. I love it's school girl charm and I know that it will be a bag I'll keep for years. The more beat up, the better! Paired with a flimsy B&W dress, a red hair bow and some moccasins, the look perfectly channels the charm and innocence of a 90's school girl. The only thing missing to complete this look is a pair of cozy knit knee-highs. Know where I can find myself a great pair in a neutral shade?

In which honour was I sent such a generous gift you may ask? Well, Aldo is celebrating 40 years of fabulous shoe making this year. I've been an avid buyer of the brand since well, forever and I know I will continue to buy/lust/dream about their great footwear for years to come. Want to know something fun! My first ever pair of high heel was an Aldo pair. It was a some sort of combat boots/chunky heel hybrid that I would love to own at the moment!!

Happy 40th Aldo and lots of success in the futur!

Pssss... Check out the sales on Aldo.com. There's so much I want to get my little hands on especially these, these, these and these (among many others!!)

Marcelle's BB Cream

The year is barely one month in yet, I can safely say that I have already found one of my holy grail product of 2012. You see, I received Marcelle's new BB cream at an event the brand waS throwing in honour of their up-coming product launch. The next morning, I skipped my trusty Laura Mercier Silk Cream Foundation and decided to try this baby instead. It was love at first application! It quickly made it's way into my beauty routine replacing my 55$ foundation...

These are just some of the main reasons why I jumped at the chance to appear in the new BB cream web commercial along side Camille DG, Fatou MB, Aimee D and Ellie S. Check out the final result in both languages below and most of all, don't forget to pick up

Manicure Wednesday: Shiny Red

On My Nails Some cheapo nail polish from a gift set

This little miracle in a pot is the simple proof that cheaper product don't necessarily rhyme with crap. I've had this nail varnish (definitely watching way too much British Youtube beauty guru videos...lol) for the longest time. It is from one of those cheesy gift box set they sell during the holidays at big surface stores like WalMart. Since popping it on my nails last friday, I haven't noticed any chipping at all! So impressive. Plus, the application is a real charm because the colour doesn't streak and is just the perfect consistency. Do you think it is because the finish isn't of the matte sort?

Do you have a cheapo nail polish you simply adore?

TV Style Muse: Angela Chase

Jacket Thrifted Ralph Lauren via Savers/Village des Valeurs - Plaid Shirt Vintage via Savers - Bright Eyes Shirt Saddle Creek Records - Corduroy Skinnies Reitman via Savers - Combat Boots Random Store - Wool Socks Stolen from my dad

I discovered My So-Called Life later on in my life but I still feel like in impacted me a lot, maybe even more than if I had first seen it in my teenage years. The Angela drama always brings back a wave of nostalgia as soon as I see her on screen. Plus, added bonus that the show was filmed in the 90's. Totally what I am feeling nowadays style wise . Never seen the show? It is a must watch for sure! Don't forget to don your best flimsy floral dress and oversize plaid shirt to watch it ;)

Corduroy, Band Tshirt, combat boots (wish I had doc...to better complete the 90's look!) and plaid shirt with heather grey hood, I am all set for a TV marathon...

PS: Already miss my hair so much... As you can probably guess, these pics where taken prior to the hair disaster.
