Hands In My Pocket

Crop Top Vintage via a Swap - Palazzo Pant Vintage The limited via Fripe-prix Renaissance - Tan Leather Belt Vintage via Community Shop - Wedge Sandals Banana Republic - Sunglasses Vintage Byblos

Never in a million year did I ever think I would be obsessed with palazzo pants, let alone be able to pull them off and with a cropped top! I found these babies while on a thrifting trip a few weeks ago and instantly deemed them Osheaga worthy. Paired with a loose fitting, low arm hole DIY band tank, they'll be covering me from the sun without it being too hot. Thanks to the sheerness of the pants (basically see-through IRL), the wind will probably save me from the blazing August sun therefore making pants a somewhat bearable option.

As for the cropped top, I'm sure it will have its rightful place in my summer wardrobe paired with all of my highwaisted skirts. They'll be perfect companions!

Thrifting Find: Western Choker

Necklace Thrifted via Community Shop

There's nothing like adapting a trend to your own personal style. Although I really like the choker necklace trend, I sometimes find that most piece are too modern/minimalist for my liking. What can I say, I am not someone who's style could be described as minimal. This western inspired option is right up my sartorial alley.

I love it on its own with a simple tank or under a collared shirt but I also enjoy it a bit ott paired with longer necklaces. At 3.99, it was a bargain I couldn't pass up.

Wednesday Manicure: Midie Neon Orange

On My Nails Midie colour in 37

I might shy away from wearing bold/neon clothing but there's one place where brighter is always better...Nails, of course! This particular shade was given to me by my friend Dominique when she realized that the simple orange colour she thought she had purchased was in fact a highlighter neon. I have to admit that even I, on the first try, thought it might be too much for me to handle but that was two summers ago!

Now, crazy brights make everything feel new again. I may not be into donning too in-your-face shades but nails I can embrace! The perfect final touch of fun to any outfit.

I Gave My Heart To Rock N Roll

Pleather Jacket Thrifted - Cropped Tank Vintage via Village des Valeurs - Skirt Vintage via Community shop - Tights Secrets - Black Wedges Call It Spring - Ring Suzy Shier - Sunglasses Vintage Byblos via Saint-Eustache Flea Market

No matter how much I enjoy living in the big city (Montreal, in case you didn't know...) there are definitely some things I miss dearly about life in the suburbs. They are:

  • Planning a thrifting scavenging hunt
  • Having 3 flea markets within a 30 minute drive
  • Always having a great chance of finding designer pieces
  • The deals at my local Pharmaprix. Think 5$ for a vast choice of full sized parfumes (Chanel, John Varvatos, Calvin Klein, Lolita lempicka...)

I guess I'll find my footing in time. Until then, I'll make the most out of every visit I make to my mother.

...or you could also just let me in onto your little hidden gems around the city. Where do you thrift? Do you know of any amazing spots? Please, help out a desperate girl!

Wednesday Manicure: Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Big Money

On My Nails c/o Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Big Money

There's nothing quite like catching a glimpse of glittery nails throughout the day. Instant waves of joy!

I've been testing out the brand new Sally Hansen Gem Crush collection for the last few week and Oh dear have I been head over heels for the amazing glitter colour selection it has to over. Let's be honest, a lot of brand came out with sparkling nail polishes these last few seasons and the market is overflowing with options but I've been positively surprised with the unexpected mix of colours in the Gem Crush glitters. Think a mix of gold with the random blue flakes (big money), a sort of rose gold concoction (Razzle Dazzler) and a graphite black that makes your nails look like a galaxy (Glitz Gal).

Only down side is that you definitely need to use these as a top coat as stated in the instructions otherwise your nails will chip in a second. I follow the right application procedures when I did my ring finger manicure last week and had no problem whatsoever.

I'll definitely be shelling out some of my own cash to buy some extra shades. On my wishlist: Cha-Ching! and Bling-tastic.

Vampire Killer

Stripe Blouse Thrifted - Leather Pants H&M - Belt Vintage - Boots Call It Spring - Clutch Vintage - Earrings DIY - Sunglasses Forever 21 - Lipstick Revlon Super Lustrous Va va Violet

Leather pants used to be a sort of uniform in my highschool days. Weird right! Well, what can I say, this is what happens when you have Buffy Summers as a style icon. Over the years, I acculated quite the collection: a camel pair, a red pair, a plain black pair, a black pair with studs down the side of the legs and a navy snake skin pair. I know it's nothing to be proud of... and that I should in fact try to hide my fashion mishaps as much as possible but I think this here is a great exemple of my fashion mind set. When I love something, I go all out! Kind of the 1999 version of my little white lace dress. I could never get enough...

As you can probably guess, I grew so tried of the look that I thought you would never see me wearing leather pants ever again. Once again, I was wrong. These babies were to good to pass up a year ago. They add interest and texture to any outfit. At 34.99$, that's a very small price to pay for such a statement basic. This exact same pair might not still be available but H&M has been doing a similar style in various colours for the last few seasons. A must get!

Wednesday Manicure: Ring Finger Manicure

On my Nails Essie Mint Candy Apple - Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Big Money

Being the hopelessly romantic girl that I am, is it really that much of a surprise that I just adore the ring finger manicure concept.

Mix two of my favourite colours of the moment and you've got a winning combination.

March In Pictures

1. Got to try out these glittery polishes thanks to Viviane Roy. So addicting! More on them later.
2. My brand new vintage camera bag. What a steal at 3.99$! Perfect for festival season.
3. Another collar link broach added to my collection. Now, I need to find some silver ones.
4. Getting to see First Aid Kit live was by far the highlight of my month.
5. The constant soundtrack to my live. I've been searching for the perfect lyrics to get tattooed.
6. My mouth starts watering when I think about the goodness that is Chai au coco tea.
7. Youtube Royalty in my humble opinion: The lovely and ever hilarious Essie Button. Also, don't worry Nelson will not steal you soul.

Army Uniform

Army Jacket Thrifted - Floral Print Dress Vintage - Tights c/o Secret - Combat Boots Yellow - Headband Thrifted

Last week, I told you all about my fashion basics, this week is all about my uniform. When in a pinch or when I just don't feel like being bothered with choosing an outfit, I know I can rely on my trusty floral dress and army jacket to save the day. With this combo, I know I simply can't go wrong and that I'll always feel comfortable in it. The fun thing about it is that you can pretty much execute this style to any flavour. Add a fur sole and wedges for a more dressed up look or keep it casual with a pair of combat boots and minimal jewellery.

This time, I decided to add some visual interest by pairing the look with some sheer polka dot tights courtesy of Secret. I also traded in the jewellery for a western inspired headband. Let me know if you'd be interested in a DIY of this look. Quite an easy look to achieve but also such a nice change from the 2009 way of wearing headbands ;)

TONIGHT'S Show: First Aid Kit

You know I'm really into something when I write about it two weeks in a row...

After stumbling onto this Vogue Italia interview, I couldn't resist posting it here. First Aid Kit's aesthetic is right up my alley in terms of style as well as their fashion philosophy. Vintage over retail, style over fashion all of that mixed in with a deep love for the 60's and 70's. Doesn't this pretty much sums me up! Style soul sister *corny*.

I`ve already picked out my outfit for tonight's concert at La Sala Rossa (Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 9pm). Will I be seeing you there?

Leather And Denim

Faux Fur Vest Zara - Denim Button Down Thrifted - Tshirt T by Alexander Wang via SSENSE - Pleather Pants H&M - Boots Winners - Sunglasses Thrifted RayBan Wayfarer (1$!!) via Village des Valeurs - Necklaces Vintage

The combination of this outfit features all the trend I rely most on to add punch to any outfit. I think of them as statement basics. Not quite classics but certainly items I know I can almost incorporate to any outfit...some sort of fashionable neutrals.

Every favourite of mine is there:
  • Fur
  • Leather
  • Leopard print
  • Denim
  • A grey t shirt (the most comfortable item of clothing on the face of the earth)
Missing from that list are 4 of my beloved go tos: Floral prints, lace, stripes and Polka dots. With these past few seasons, I could almost add Native American patterns to the mix.

Mix some of these together and you've got my perfect every day ensemble with combinations varying on the my mood of the day.

What are you fashionable basics?
